St George and the Dragon
St. George and the Dragon is a lush re-telling of the story of how St. George killed a dragon. It is based on an old medieval story of how one lone knight killed a mighty dragon.
As story goes in order for the dragon to leave the townspeople alone they feed it two sheep per day. When this failed (or all of the sheep were gone), they decided by lottery to feed the dragon one child. It just so happened that one year the King's daughter was chosen by lottery. The King begged for his daughters life, but the townspeople refused to trade one of their children for the princess.
It just so happened that St George was passing by the place where the dragon and the princess was. He tries to kill the dragon with a lance, but fails, and he is wounded as well. The princess helps him back to the town, and they take the wounded dragon. The knight tells the town if they will convert to being Christian, he will kill the dragon.
He then kills the dragon. The King then builds a church on the site where the dragon died. Everyone is happy.
The Fortune Tellers
The story is set in Africa. One day a young carpenter wonders if he will ever marry and do well for himself. He decides to go see the local fortune teller. The fortune teller assures him that he will marry well and become a rich man.
When the young man goes back later to ask other questions, the fortune teller is gone.
The landlord of the fortune teller mistakes the young man for the fortune teller, as he must have "great powers to turn himself into a young man!".
The carpenter tries to tell her the truth but she will not hear it. Other people come to have their fortunes told, and the young man decides to tell them the same thing that he was told. He now becomes the fortune teller and tells everyone the same thing as he was told.
He then meets a rich merchants daughter, marries her, and does well with his fortune-thus becoming the rich man he was promised to become.
